Keep Your Skin Glowing this La Niña Season
The rainy season has come, but downpours do not mean your skin needs to breakdown as well. You may have heard that the way you treat your skin and the products that you will use should change simultaneously with the weather. This is important as the skin will adapt with how the surrounding feels, so your summer moisturizer just won’t cut it this monsoon season.
There are good reasons why you should switch up your skincare routine once the rain falls. It may become a little more expensive product-wise, but you will see be able to lessen the possible damage your skin will incur with the change in the weather.
Worry not because we got you covered. We are sharing with you the know-how on keeping the glowing and at bay this la niña season.
Cleanliness should be your priority
For skin to glow even on rainy days, one must not allow themselves to contact skin infections by practicing proper hygiene. This may seem the hardest given that rain pours can happen any time of the day. Moist skin can become a breeding ground for bacteria, fungi and yeast. Pop in your bag a pack of cleansing wipes or anti-bacterial alcohol for on-the-go cleaning.
Remember to wear sunscreen
Overcast days are frequent during the rainy season, but that does not mean that we should skip on sunscreen. Sunscreen is vital part of skincare and must be observed year-round. The Skin Cancer Foundation stated that as high as 80 percent of the sun’s rays go through clouds. Therefore, umbrellas, hats and even staying indoors are not foolproof ways of sun protection.
Applying sunscreen is a preventive measure for sunburn, premature skin aging, and skin cancer. Remember to generously apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen, one that which intercepts UVA and UVB, to exposed areas before heading out.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
You must understand that skin care is not simply what you put on your skin but more of what you intake. Drink enough water or eat food that contains water to replenish lost water in the body and to flush out harmful toxins out of your body.
Rainy days also relatively increases humidity – and humidity is not too good for the skin. You sweat more making the skin lose moisture and appear dull. Also, humidity makes sweat evaporation and the skin tends to collect dirt, oil and pollution. Carry around a bottle of handy facial mist for a quick skin pick-me-up.
Rescue your skin with exfoliation
We previously said that skin tends to collect grime during rainy days which makes the skin look dull and prone to breakouts. Gently exfoliate your skin regularly to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. Use readily available scrubs or concoct a DIY pack with your choice of ingredients to control the appearance of blackheads and whiteheads. This will bring back the skin’s glow as exfoliation encourages the growth of new skin cells.
