You are what you eat – your skin will reflect how healthy you are inside. You cannot expect good skin if you overeat refined carbohydrates such as processed sugar and processed flour, salt, fried food and dairy among plenty others.

Avocado

Nature has its own moisturizer and it is embodied in the soft flesh of avocados. This fruit is packed with fatty acids and antioxidants such as lutein and beta carotene that are excellent in keeping the skin hydrated and moisturized. You may enjoy an avocado with interesting recipes or as a face mask mixed with honey!

Carrots

Crunchy and sweet carrots are a powerhouse of large amounts of beta carotene that helps prevent cell degeneration, aging, and dull skin. Beta carotene is converted into vitamin A that keeps the body tissues, eyes, bones and teeth healthy. Carrots are also a great source of potassium and vitamin C which when drank as carrot juice can aid in hydrating the skin and promoting collagen growth.

If you are someone who is so not fond of carrots, you can still maximize its benefits by grating some carrot and mixing it with honey and apply as a mask. Do not let it sit on your skin too long, though, or else your skin will turn into an orangey hue.

Cucumber

If you enjoy the refreshing effect of cucumbers in water and sushi rolls, we are sure you will enjoy it even more now you know that it is beneficial to the skin. Thanks to its high water content, cucumber is known for its hydrating and cooling properties. Aside from being an instant fix for puffy eyes, it can treat irritated, oily skin and sunburn. It is, by far, one of the best home remedies for skin issues during summer.

Whether you prefer to chew on cucumber or create it into a face pack with a few drops of honey, you can be sure that achieving glowing skin is on its way.

Oranges

Ending each meal with a sweet, pulpy orange gives delight not only to our taste buds but also to our skin. Rich in vitamin C, oranges keep the skin beautiful by helping it fight against sun damage and pollution. This fruit is also filled with antioxidants that resist free radicals, slowing down premature skin aging and wrinkle production.

But do not just throw the orange peel away! It actually contains more vitamin C than the orange itself. Orange peels work best as face packs mixed with either yogurt or milk for instant clear and glowing skin. Its antimicrobial and antibacterial properties are perfect for skin exfoliation and treating blackheads, dead skin cells, acne, and blemishes. So go ahead and grind some orange peel and scrub it on your skin!

Tomatoes

Tomato is more than just its eye-catching red skin and tangy taste; it is one of nature’s superfoods. Packed with natural vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, K, B1, B3, B5, B6, B7, and vitamin C, tomatoes are beneficial for the body, inside and out. But tomatoes get even better with lycopene, an antioxidant which has outstanding anti-aging benefits. The body converts lycopene into retinol, a vitamin A by-product that stimulates cell development, urging the skin to rapidly replace dry and damaged skin for a newer and younger looking skin.

So infuse these foods in your meals and skincare routine to enjoy the colors of nutrition. Heart-healthy and skin-healthy, these foods will surely keep your skin glowing not only during summer but also throughout the year.
